Gabions Installation Progress on Karya Island Reaches 70 Percent

The Seribu Islands Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency, installed gabions, locally called bronjong to strengthen the boundary embankment on the east side of Karya Island, RW 02, Panggang Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands Sub-district.

It is done to withstand the impact of waves heading towards the outer embankment

Seribu Islands SDA Sub-agency Head, Mustajab said the 50-meter-long gabions installation was carried out by arranging stones in a wire basket that is 1.5 meters wide and 50 centimeters high.

"It is done to withstand the impact of waves heading towards the outer embankment," he expressed, Monday (8/19).

He explained its installation on the east side of Karya Island has been ongoing since August 12, 2024, by sending ten personnel to the location.

"Our target is two days ahead. We're now still waiting for the arrival of river stones," he explained.

By doing so, it could anticipate flooding and abrasion. "Hope this bronjong will last long. Moreover, we will always maintain it routinely," he added.

The work above received appreciation from one of the residents of Panggang Island Urban Village, Fathur (48).

"The performance results are very good. Hopefully, the installation of these gabions can be done on all sides of Karya Island so that the embankment remains maintained," he closed.
